BMW diesel engines: M57, N47, N57, B47, and B57

What this guide covers
The diesel engines listed most often are the M57 and N57 six-cylinders, the N47 and B47 four-cylinders, and the B57 six-cylinder that followed the N57.
They are not interchangeable because the badge says 320d or 530d. The code, the year, and the emissions equipment decide the fit.
Fitment
Early and late N47 units differ. LCI N57 cars differ from pre-LCI cars in ancillaries. B47 and B57 are a later family and do not drop into an N47 or N57 bay without a different car.
Name the gearbox when you order. Automatic diesel cars carry a different converter and cooler layout.
What the workshop checks
Diesel inspections pay attention to the turbo, the injectors as fitted, oil in the intake tract, and metal in the sump. The photographs show what is still on the unit.

Warranty
Eligible engines carry a warranty of up to 12 months after a correct installation by a workshop. The warranty covers eligible internal failure. It does not cover a mismatched fitment, a dry start, the wrong oil, or damage caused after the crate is opened.

Door-to-door shipping from Hamburg is a flat 299,00 €. The engine is packed for freight and delivered to the address on the order. A forklift or an engine crane is required at delivery. The shipment is arranged to the destination the buyer provides.
