How to match a BMW engine to a VIN
The VIN carries the engine code. Use it before the engine is crated, not after it arrives.

What this guide covers
The VIN is the reliable way to name the engine the car left the factory with. The model badge is not.
Send the VIN while the engine is still in Hamburg if the year, the gearbox, or the emissions equipment is unclear.
Fitment
Look up the engine code, then the build month. Facelift cars often change the sump, the cooler, or the loom plugs.
A conversion into a different chassis is a workshop project. It is not what a standard listing promises.
What the workshop checks
The plate on the engine should agree with the listing. If it does not, the unit is not the one that was ordered.

Warranty
Eligible engines carry a warranty of up to 12 months after a correct installation by a workshop. The warranty covers eligible internal failure. It does not cover a mismatched fitment, a dry start, the wrong oil, or damage caused after the crate is opened.
Shipping
Door-to-door shipping from Hamburg is a flat 299,00 €. The engine is packed for freight and delivered to the address on the order. A forklift or an engine crane is required at delivery. The shipment is arranged to the destination the buyer provides.
